Nicola Berman MD, FRCP(C)
Dr. Nicola Berman studied at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland for medical school, and did her Internal Medicine residency at Pennsylvania Hospital, of the University of Pennsylvania Health system. During residency, she focused on clinical research in Sjogren’s syndrome. Following this, she was accepted to NYU Langone medical center for her Rheumatology fellowship. It was here that she developed an interest in quality improvement projects and in particular evaluating and treating patients with osteoporosis. After serving as Chief Fellow in her second year, she started working as an attending physician at Lenox Hill Hospital with Northwell Health in Manhattan, NY. She worked closely with the Endocrinology department to develop a follow up fracture clinic. As the first full time Rheumatologist employed at the hospital, she also collaborated with the Pulmonologists, Neurologists and Nephrologists in both multi-disciplinary conferences and clinical care. She remained as an assistant professor of medicine at NYU medical school and Hofstra medical school and published clinical reviews in Sjogren’s syndrome with colleagues at the affiliated academic center. After 3 years with Northwell Health, Dr. Berman moved to Toronto to pursue a career in clinical medicine, and started her community practice in North York. She has continued to pursue her clinical interest in osteoporosis, working closely with Osteoporosis Ontario as well as with her colleagues at Humber River Health to work on improvement of post fracture care.
