Barb Collins
Barbara Collins was appointed the President and CEO of Humber River Hospital (HRH) in July 2016. In her previous role as COO, she served as the Senior Executive for HRH’s redevelopment project, leading the design, construction and activation of HRH’s Wilson Site in October 2015, North America’s first fully digital hospital. This ground-breaking approach to integrating technology across all hospital systems and workflows was shortly followed by the development and implementation of HRH’s Command Centre in November 2017, a first in Canada and second in the world.
As President and CEO of Humber River Hospital she has overseen the establishment of two Reactivation Care Centres, one at each of the two legacy sites. Reactivation care is a focus program to maximize the health of our senior patients as they return to home or a long term care facility, and is a partnership programs with 8 GTA acute care hospitals. Currently under construction is a 320-bed long-term care facility at the Finch Avenue site scheduled to open in Fall 2022.
Barbara’s commitment to high reliability care and academic mission for hospital and community has led to the development of the North West Toronto Ontario Health Team of which Barbara is a co-chair. HRH has also been able to join the Toronto Academic Health Sciences Network (TAHSN) as an associate affiliated academic hospital.
Zaki Ahmed MD, FRCP(C), FCCP
Dr. Zaki Ahmed joined Humber River Hospital as the Chief of Staff and Critical Care Physician in April 2022. He arrived from Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre, where he was, most recently the Chief of Staff, and is an Associate Professor at Northern Ontario School of Medicine. He has a robust background in program development and management as well as academics. An Internist, Respirologist and Intensivist by training, Dr. Ahmed has a special interest in Medical Leadership. He has completed a Masters Certificate in Physician Leadership from Schulich School of Business / York University and a Masters in Health Sciences in Health Administration from Institute of Health Policy Management and Evaluation at University of Toronto. He is a Registered Corporate Coach with the Worldwide Association of Business Coaches and is a strong advocate for the role of coaching and mentorship in Medicine.
In his current role, he has prioritized the development of the Family Medicine Teaching Unit at Humber River Health which started in July of 2023. His work includes the development of educational and training opportunities such as fellowships in surgical subspecialties and Gynecology. He has a keen interest in advancing Quality Improvement and Physician Wellness.
Neetika Sidana MD, FRCS(C)
Neetika Sidana is a staff Obstetrician Gynecologist at Humber River Health. She completed her residency at the University of Toronto in 2019. She went on to complete a fellowship at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre in Minimally Invasive Gynecology in 2021, certified through the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists. Her clinical interests include fibroids, endometriosis, and minimally invasive gynecologic surgery. She is a dedicated teacher and a clinical lecturer with the University of Toronto.
Diana Magee MD, MPH, MSc, FRCSC
Dr. Diana Magee completed her undergraduate education at Cornell University followed by a Master of Public Health degree at Boston University. She received her medical degree from Queen’s University and completed her urology residency at the University of Toronto. While in residency she enrolled in the Surgeon Scientist program and completed her Master of Science in Health Services Research. She completed her fellowship in urologic oncology at Fox Chase Cancer Center in Philadelphia. Dr. Magee’s area of expertise is in the management of urologic cancers as well as performing minimally invasive surgery.
Jonathan Shapero MD, FRCP(C)
Jonathan Shapero earned his bachelor of science with distinction from the University of Toronto, where he was on the dean’s list for multiple years. He earned his medical degree from Queen’s University, where he served as class vice president and was awarded the Mulloch Scholarship in pediatrics and twice awarded the Isobel McConville Scholarship for research in surgery, and the L. J. Patterson prize for research into the immunological aspects of cancer. Clinical rotation at John Hopkins in dermatology and presented at John Hopkins grand rounds. Dermatology residency at the University of British Columbia, where he served as chief resident, and the University of Toronto.
Jonathan has served as faculty and lecturer for the Skin Spectrum Summit and has served on the executive advisory committee of the Skin Spectrum Summit.
Jonathan Shapero is the President of the Canadian Laser and Aesthetics Specialists Society and also is the moderator for the Laser Safety Course for the Canadian Laser and Aesthetics Specialists Society. Jonathan Shapero regularly attends the Skin of Color Updates in New York, where he has been honoured at the plenary session for his dermatology research publications on black skin.
Due to his commitment to the advancement of dermatology in skin of colour, Dr. Jonathan Shapero and Dr. Harvey Shapero were invited to join the Caribbean Dermatology Association, where they are the only non-Caribean dermatologists to be members. Jonathan Shapero regularly attends the Caribbean Dermatology Meeting and has been a presenter at the meeting.
Dr. Shapero also has extensive academic publications in dermatology with a particular focus on skin of colour dermatology as well as cardiology and cardiovascular surgery and is a manuscript reviewer for the Canadian Medical Association Journal (CMAJ).
Dr. Jonathan Shapero has given lectures for the Canadian Dermatology Association Annual Conference, Humber River Hospital Internal Medicine Grand Rounds, University of Alberta Dermatology Grand Rounds, and Johns Hopkins Dermatology Grand Rounds.
Dr. Shapero has held student research positions at Princess Margaret Hospital, where he focused on cancer with a particular focus on thyroid cancer. He has held a student research position at the Sick Kids Hospital with a focus on pediatric cardiovascular surgery and Toronto General Hospital with a focus on cardiovascular surgery and cardiac prosthetic devices. He has also held student research positions at the Centraalbureau voor Schimmelcultures (The Centre for Mycology) in the Netherlands with a focus on fungus that can infect the skin, Ontario Public Health Laboratories in medical microbiology, and Med Chem Health Laboratories in Scarborough.
Andre Ali-Ridha MD, FRCS(C)
Dr. Andre Ali-Ridha is a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and has fellowship training in both Glaucoma and Ophthalmic Pathology. Dr. Ali-Ridha is originally from Whitby, Ontario where he first started working in his local Optometry office from the beginning of high school. After doing medical missions abroad in the Philippines, he went on to do medical school in Ottawa where he received several awards including the leadership and collaboration competency awards for his work in establishing the first pediatric vision screening program. He has worked as a Research Assistant with the Head of the Department in Ophthalmology at the University of Toronto at St. Michael’s Hospital and has completed a fellowship in ophthalmic pathology. Dr. Ali-Ridha has published and presented extensively, even conducting research in macular degeneration for 2 months in Poland.
He completed his Ophthalmology residency at McGill University where he won first prize in research and during which he served as the research director at the Council of Canadian Ophthalmology Residents. Dr. Ali-Ridha has published articles extensively in many journals and has presented at numerous national and international conferences. Following his passion for teaching, he won the outstanding commitment and achievement to medical student teaching award and the excellence in teaching for clinical practice award from the Dean at McGill University. Dr. Ali-Ridha has developed the first interactive online teaching curriculum in Ophthalmology for medical students and residents, a special community program for the prevention of eye injuries and trauma with the CNIB and the first community sharing platform for resident surgical videos at McGill called Eye-Learn. Dr. Ali-Ridha was also involved in a randomized clinical trial to optimize the use of eye drops for the future of cataract surgery. He now enjoys teaching local emergency and family medicine physicians including sharing lectures and videos with them from his own online teaching website and developing hands-on training sessions in ophthalmic examination skills. He is currently staff at the Markham Stouffville and North York Hospitals where he operates and is affiliated with Mackenzie, Cortellucci Vaughan and Southlake Hospitals.
Joshua Dias MD
Dr. Joshua Dias is a staff psychiatrist who started working at Humber River Hospital in 2019. He primarily sees general psychiatric outpatients. He also leads the intensive mood/anxiety day program
(Taking Charge), works in the urgent care clinic and provides inpatient coverage. He is also one of the four Medical Leads of the outpatient mental health and addictions program (for Depression, Anxiety & Access). He will be joining the new Clinical Informatics Council
(replacing the former Physician IT Advocacy Committee at HRH).
Mehtab Asadabadi MD
Dr. Mahtab Asadabadi completed her first psychiatry residency at the Tehran University of Medical Sciences in Iran, followed by a second psychiatry residency in Canada, and joined Humber River Hospital as a full-time staff psychiatrist at the beginning of 2022. She sees general psychiatric outpatients, mostly diagnosed with mood and anxiety disorders as well as PTSD. She is also interested in incorporating psychotherapy modalities in the psychiatric treatment plan for patients suffering from chronic depression, anxiety and trauma-related symptoms.
Judith Seary MD, FRCP(C)
Dr. Judith Seary is a staff geriatrician at Humber River Health. She joined the medical staff of Humber River Hospital in 2019. She attended McMaster University for her training in geriatrics. She completed the Harvard University Safety, Quality, Informatics and Leadership (SQIL) program. She is interested in quality improvement and health systems optimization.
