The HRH Family Medicine Scientific Planning Committee is pleased to announce our 24th Annual – Clinical Day. Our Family Practice conferences have taken place at Humber River Hospital for many years with great success as an exceptional education program to assist Family Physicians with the management of their patients.
The focus this year is on “Excellence in Health Care – Improving Outcomes”. We are planning to offer a hybrid program with the option for physicians and other primary care providers to attend in-person or virtually.
The Learning Objectives of the program are to enable the participants to improve their clinical skills in the prevention, diagnosis, treatment and long-term management of chronic disease states.

Barb Collins
Barbara Collins was appointed the President and CEO of Humber River Hospital (HRH) in July 2016. In her previous role as COO, she served as the Senior Executive for HRH’s redevelopment project, leading the design, construction and activation of HRH’s Wilson Site in October 2015, North America’s first fully digital hospital. This ground-breaking approach to integrating technology across all hospital systems and workflows was shortly followed by the development and implementation of HRH’s Command Centre in November 2017, a first in Canada and second in the world.
As President and CEO of Humber River Hospital she has overseen the establishment of two Reactivation Care Centres, one at each of the two legacy sites. Reactivation care is a focus program to maximize the health of our senior patients as they return to home or a long term care facility, and is a partnership programs with 8 GTA acute care hospitals. Currently under construction is a 320-bed long-term care facility at the Finch Avenue site scheduled to open in Fall 2022.
Barbara’s commitment to high reliability care and academic mission for hospital and community has led to the development of the North West Toronto Ontario Health Team of which Barbara is a co-chair. HRH has also been able to join the Toronto Academic Health Sciences Network (TAHSN) as an associate affiliated academic hospital.
Sudha Kutty
Sudha Kutty is the Vice President Strategy and External Relations at Humber River Hospital. She is responsible for supporting the leadership team in the execution of Humber River Hospital’s strategic plan with specific oversight of Communications, Medical Affairs, Diversity and Inclusion, the North West Toronto Ontario Health Team, and the creation of a Family Medicine Teaching Unit. Sudha is passionate about promoting Humber River Hospital’s vision of Lighting New Ways in Healthcare with a view to improving health care system integration and inclusion. She has more than 20 years of health care leadership experience at a provincial level, with leadership roles at the Ontario Hospital Association, Health Quality Ontario, and most recently Ontario Health. Sudha holds an Honours Bachelor of Science in Human Biology and International Relations from University of Toronto, a degree in law from the University of Western Ontario, and a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) from the Rotman School of Management, University of Toronto. She is also a member of the Law Society of Ontario.
Patrick Safieh MD, CCFP (EM), FCFP

Dr. Safieh’s clinical work includes a family practice and the emergency department at Humber River. He is currently a Council Member of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO) and serves on the Quality Assurance Committee of the CPSO. He is also on the Executive Committee of the Medical Staff Association of HRH. Dr. Safieh has held various administrative positions including Chief of Family Medicine with an Academic Unit at St. Joseph’s Health Centre, Chief of Family Medicine and Chief of Emergency Medicine here at Humber River as well as Chief of Staff at Humber River Hospital. He has four children and works with his wife Katherine who is also a Family Physician with privileges at Humber River. Dr. Safieh did his internship at the old York Finch General Hospital and considers Humber River Hospital a second home.
Ian Brasg MD, FRCPC

Ian Brasg is the newest physician to join the Humber River Hospital infectious diseases group. He is excited to be contributing to care in Northwest Toronto, having grown up in Thornhill and now residing in York with his wife and family.
After undergraduate studies at Princeton University, he completed medical school, internal medicine residency and infectious diseases training at the University of Toronto. He also completed an additional year of fellowship in Toronto in infections relating to cancer, transplant and other immunocompromising conditions.
For the last 14 months, Ian has been serving as a medical expert for Humber River Hospital on COVID-19 and has assisted with the planning and execution of our response. He is currently completing his MSc in Systems Leadership and Innovation at the University of Toronto.
Melinda Maggisano MD, FRCS(C)

Dr. Melinda Maggisano is a General Surgeon at Humber River Hospital with a focus on Minimally Invasive Surgery and Breast Disease.

Edwin Zhang MD, FRCPC
Dr. Edwin Zhang completed his medical degree at the University of Saskatchewan, his residency in Diagnostic Radiology at the University of Alberta, and his fellowship in Vascular & Interventional Radiology at the University of Toronto University Health Network & Mt. Sinai. From 2016-2018, he worked as an interventional radiologist at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Center. In 2018, he moved to Humber River Hospital, where he currently works as both a diagnostic and interventional radiologist. He is currently the Director of Interventional Radiology at HRH.
Andrew Marsh MD MSC FRCSC
Dr. Andrew D. Marsh is a certified orthopaedic surgeon with the Royal College of Physicians Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC) specializing in Foot & Ankle and Trauma surgery. Dr. Marsh received his BSc with honours in kinesiology from Dalhousie University and MSc in kinesiology & sports medicine from University of Calgary. He returned to Dalhousie to earn his Medical Doctorate in 2013. He became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada after completing his Orthopaedic Surgery residency at Queen’s University.
Originally from the east coast of Canada, Dr. Marsh moved to Toronto to complete his fellowship training in Foot and Ankle Reconstruction & Orthopaedic Trauma Surgery through the University of Toronto at Toronto Western, St. Michael’s and Sunnybrook hospitals.
Dr. Marsh is currently a Foot & Ankle and Trauma surgeon at Humber River Hospital in Toronto.

Jeremy Rezmovitz MSc, MD, CCFP
Dr. Jeremy Rezmovitz is a Community Family Physician, affiliated with Humber River Hospital and Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre. He is an assistant professor in the Department of Family and Community Medicine (DFCM) at the University of Toronto. He was the past Continuing Professional Development (CPD) lead for the DFCM and has taught at all levels of education including teaching Quality Improvement at the Dalla Lana School of Public Health in the Graduate Studies Program. He believes in better.
Kenneth J. Zucker Ph.D., C.Psych
Dr. Zucker is a registered psychologist in Ontario. He is a Professor (Status Only) in the Department of Psychiatry, University of Toronto and in private practice. He was the Chair of the DSM-5 Work Group on Sexual and Gender Identity Disorders. He is a past President of the International Academy of Sex Research and has been the Editor of Archives of Sexual Behavior since 2002.
Jonathan Leef Ph.D., C.Psych
Dr. Jonathan Leef is a child and adolescent psychologist, registered with the College of Psychologists of Ontario. He earned his Ph.D. in School and Clinical Child Psychology from the University of Toronto (OISE/UT) and completed his post-doctoral training at York University’s Department of Psychology. Dr. Leef’s research and clinical training were obtained through the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH), the Hospital for Sick Children, and Holland Bloorview Kids Rehab Hospital. He is currently a psychologist at Holland Bloorview’s Autism Research Centre and at Humber River Hospital’s Child & Adolescent Mental Health Program.
