Dr. Sean Wharton is the medical director of the Wharton Medical Clinics in Southern Ontario. Sean has his doctorate in both Pharmacy and Medicine and his research focuses on bariatric medicine and type 2 diabetes, and he has published or contributed to many peer-reviewed articles on a range of topics in these fields. He has also led research investigating the importance of patients having access to trained professionals in weight management, and is a strong advocate for government-funded medical care for patients with increased weight. Dr. Wharton is a member of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons, Obesity Canada, the Canadian Association of Bariatric Surgeons and Physicians. Sean is the corresponding lead author of the Canadian Adult Obesity Clinical Practice Guidelines (CPG), and the summary was published by the Canadian Medical Association Journal August 2020.
