Objectives
At the conclusion of this program, participants will be better able to:
- Describe the potential therapeutic uses for medical cannabis, including the role in chronic pain management
- Assess patients for cannabis use disorder
- Discuss considerations and implications for medical cannabis patients in the workplace and driving
- Interpret and utilize guidance documents and position statements towards appropriately incorporating medical cannabis into primary care practice

Chief Medical Review Officer, DriverCheck Inc.
Dr. Snider-Adler is the Chief Medical Review Officer for DriverCheck and is a Board-Certified Addiction Medicine Physician with a Certificate of Added Competence in Addiction Medicine. Dr. Snider-Adler currently practices addiction medicine in Ontario and is an Assistant Professor at Queen's University Department of Family Medicine. She works as a Peer Assessor for the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario. Dr. Snider-Adler is considered an expert in the field of substance use in the workplace as well alcohol and drug testing for safety sensitive workplaces.
Michael Boivin Bsc, Phm, RPH, CDE, CTH
Michael Boivin is a pharmacist educational consultant from Barrie, Ontario. He developed his first comprehensive cannabis program in 2014. Since that time, he has developed over 100 medical cannabis programs and presentations. He has developed and delivered over 50 cannabis presentations and has delivered both keynote and conference presentations both nationally and internationally.
Objectives
- Understanding factors that impact impairment/cognitive effects
- Recognize the different forms of impairment
- Appreciate the differences in safety sensitive workplaces in comparison to other types of jobs
- Identify risk factors for substance use disorder and mental health risks and be able to screen for them
- Develop strategies to recognize individuals at higher risk with cannabis for medical purposes
Objectives
- Review the statements from national and regulatory bodies on cannabis
- Determine which patients who are appropriate for cannabis and those who are not
- Describe the steps required to authorize medical cannabis
- Determine the key considerations when authorizing cannabis for a patient
- Manage issues that can arise with cannabis use
