Learning Objectives:
The HRH Family Medicine Scientific Planning Committee is pleased to announce the Humber River Health 28th Annual Clinical Day. Our Family Practice conferences have been successfully held at Humber River Health for many years, providing an exceptional education program to assist Family Physicians with the management of their patients.
The focus this year is “Excellence in Health Care Improving Outcomes”. A hybrid program will be offered, allowing physicians and other primary care providers to attend in-person or virtually.
The Learning Objectives of the program are to enable participants to improve their clinical skills in the prevention, diagnosis, treatment and long-term management of chronic disease states.

Zaki Ahmed MD, FRCPC, FCCP, CCPE, MHSc
Dr. Zaki Ahmed has served as Chief of Staff at Humber River Health (HRH) since April 2022, bringing clinical expertise and leadership experience to one of the most innovative healthcare institutions in the country. As Canada’s first digital hospital, Humber is recognized as a leader in innovation, academic excellence and its commitment to patient-centred care – elements that Dr. Ahmed embodies through his leadership and practice.
An internist, respirologist and intensivist by training, Dr. Ahmed continues to practice as a Critical Care Physician in the largest intensive care unit (ICU) in the Greater Toronto Area, ensuring his leadership is informed by firsthand clinical experience. Beyond his role at Humber, Dr. Ahmed holds academic appointments at the University of Toronto, where he contributes his knowledge to the Temerty Faculty of Medicine, the Rotman School of Management, and the Dalla Lana School of Public Health as an Associate Professor of Medicine.
A dedicated advocate for physician leadership, Dr. Ahmed serves as a Board Director of the Canadian Society of Physician Leaders, where he supports the development of Canadian physicians in their leadership and management role. He is a registered coach with the World Business Coaches Association and takes a keen interest in coaching physicians. His passion for advancing healthcare education led him to spearhead the establishment of the Schulich Family Medicine Teaching Unit (FMTU), significantly enhancing Humber’s role as an academic health partner within the Toronto Academic Health Sciences Network (TAHSN).
Dr. Ahmed’s academic achievements include a Master’s Certificate in Physician Leadership from the Schulich School of Business at York University and a Master’s in Health Sciences in Health Administration from the University of Toronto. With a focus on executive coaching, medical leadership and continuous professional development, Dr. Ahmed remains committed to fostering innovation, research, and education. Through his leadership at Humber, Dr. Ahmed ensures that Humber not only delivers exemplary care, but also advances the future of healthcare by embracing digital innovation, academic partnerships and collaborative research.
Doug Ng MD, FRCP(C), BSc (Hons)
Dr. Ng did his medical school, internal medicine, and cardiology training at the University of Toronto. He then completed an Electrophysiology fellowship at St. Michael's Hospital. He is currently a staff cardiologist/electrophysiologist at Humber River Health, specializing in implanted cardiac devices.

Mark Greenwald MD, FRCP(C)
Dr. Greenwald received his certification in Paediatrics FRCP(C) at the Hospital for Sick Children. He completed additional specialty training in Allergy, Immunology and Rheumatology FRCP(C) through the University of Toronto. He is an Associate Professor at the University of Toronto and Assistant Professor at Queen’s University.
Dr. Greenwald has a consulting practice in Toronto devoted to the study and treatment Allergy and Asthma. He is a community resource specialist for the Respirology Department of the Hospital for Sick Children Toronto.
Dr. Greenwald devotes his time to patient care and continues to do research, and teach trainees of the medical schools of the University of Toronto and Queens University.
Dr. Greenwald has over one hundred peer reviewed publications and presentations. He has written chapters in several Medical Textbooks and he continues to publish articles in scientific journals.
Dr. Greenwald was on the executive and medical director of the Asthma Society of Canada for eighteen years, contributed to Canadian Consensus Treatment Guidelines, and is on the Board of Cabana Asthma, Allergy Immunology Foundation.
Andre Ali-Ridha MD, FRCS(C)
Dr. Andre Ali-Ridha is a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and has fellowship training in both Glaucoma and Ophthalmic Pathology. Dr. Ali-Ridha is originally from Whitby, Ontario where he first started working in his local Optometry office from the beginning of high school. After doing medical missions abroad in the Philippines, he went on to do medical school in Ottawa where he received several awards including the leadership and collaboration competency awards for his work in establishing the first pediatric vision screening program. He has worked as a Research Assistant with the Head of the Department in Ophthalmology at the University of Toronto at St. Michael’s Hospital and has completed a fellowship in ophthalmic pathology. Dr. Ali-Ridha has published and presented extensively, even conducting research in macular degeneration for 2 months in Poland.
He completed his Ophthalmology residency at McGill University where he won first prize in research and served as the research director at the Council of Canadian Ophthalmology Residents. Dr. Ali-Ridha has published articles extensively in many journals and has presented at numerous national and international conferences. Following his passion for teaching, he won the outstanding commitment and achievement to medical student teaching award and the excellence in teaching for clinical practice award from the Dean at McGill University. Dr. Ali-Ridha has developed the first interactive online teaching curriculum in Ophthalmology for medical students and residents, a special community program for the prevention of eye injuries and trauma with the CNIB and the first community sharing platform for resident surgical videos at McGill called Eye-Learn. Dr. Ali-Ridha was also involved in a randomized clinical trial to optimize the use of eye drops for the future of cataract surgery. He now enjoys teaching local emergency and family medicine physicians including sharing lectures and videos with them from his own online teaching website and developing hands-on training sessions in ophthalmic examination skills. He is currently staff at the Markham Stouffville and North York Hospitals where he operates and is affiliated with Mackenzie, Cortellucci Vaughan and Southlake Hospitals.
Wanda Marini MDCM, PhD, FRCS(C)
Wanda Marini is a current Breast Surgical Oncology Fellow at the University of Toronto. She completed her medical school at McGill University, followed by General Surgery Residency at the University of Toronto where she also completed a PhD studying the molecular mechanisms of triple negative breast cancer as part of the Surgeon Scientist Training Program. She is currently completing a Breast Surgical Oncology Fellowship at Sunnybrook, UHN and Princess Margaret, after which she will start as a staff Breast Surgical Oncologist at Humber River Hospital in August 2026.
Shabnam Hamidi MD, FRCP(C)
Dr. Shabnam Hamidi is a community nephrologist at Humber River Hospital. She completed a Bachelor in Medical Sciences at the University of Western Ontario and obtained her medical degree from McMaster University. She completed her nephrology training at Queen’s University. Her interest in helping patients maintain their independence on dialysis lead her to pursue an additional fellowship in Home Dialysis at the University of Toronto. She has published works and a specialist interest in home dialysis modalities and quality improvement.
